16th October 2019

GILBA Members Networking Meeting, Dublin

Dear GILBA member,

It has been just over a year since GILBA last held a meeting in Ireland. Since then, we in the new Committee have been settling into our new roles and familiarising ourselves with some aspects of the internal runnings of GILBA in the post-Elmar era. A number of formalities have had to be taken care of and this has indeed at times taken longer than anticipated. Nonetheless, despite these time-intensive but certainly important administrative changes, we are pleased to have been able to organise 2 events in Germany, one in Frankfurt and one in Berlin, in the intervening period. We are, however, conscious that there has not been an opportunity to meet and exchange in Ireland since our last conference in September of last year. For that reason,

the Committee is delighted to invite you to join us on Wednesday 16th October 2019 from 18:00-20:30 in the Atrium of Trinity College Dublin for an informal networking gathering.

In line with our mission to further German-Irish cooperation, we will mark this gathering by cooperating with the Germanic Society in TCD to sponsor the organisation of a Germanic-themed photographic exhibition entitled “Fernweh: Making Memories, Leaving Footprints”. At the same time, the recipients of the GILBA German-Irish Student Award will be recognised for their excellent academic achievements in the past academic year. Furthering German-Irish links as well as encouraging and supporting young professionals early in their career are key goals of GILBA and we would be delighted if you could join us to mark this occasion and to meet and exchange with Irish-based colleagues.
